July 1 - 31, 2004
Abbott Meader, retired Professor of Art at Colby College, has been working on this series of paintings between the years 1989 and 2004. The seed of each painting's fantastical world is Meader's children's drawings saved from their childhood. Working both with collage and tromp l'oeil, Meader captures the purity of a child's vision of the world and builds upon either single or multiple pieces. The outcome of this very personal artistic journey is rich and varied works that evoke a wide range of emotions: joy, amusement, trepidation and curiosity.
We are pleased to include Abbott Meader in our growing stable of artists at THE CLOWN. His work is never easy to define or categorize, with beautiful work in landscape, surealism, symbolism, and "inventions on a child's drawing".
